Banana~Strawberry Shake
1 banana, cut in chunks, frozen
6 strawberries, frozen
1 1/4 cup water
1 tbsp. skim milk powder
1 heaping tbsp. high-quality protein powder (optional)
In a blender, process all the ingredients until thoroughly mixed and serve.

17. -- Oatmeal Cake
Take 7 lbs. of medium oatmeal, 1 1/2 oz. salt, 1 1/2 oz. Carbonate of soda, 1 1/2 oz. cream of tartar, 1 1/2 lb. of flour, 1 1/2 lb. of lard.
Rub the lard in the oatmeal and flour, having previously mixed all the other ingredients in the oatmeal; make a bay, add sufficient cold water to make all into a good working dough, weigh off at 8 ozs., mould up, pin out the size you think most suitable, cut into four, and place on clean dry tins. Bake in a sharp oven.

 

Camping Recipes

Burgers In Foil
1 .to 1 1/2 lb beef,Ground
2 sm Green bell peppers,chopped
4 16-inch squares aluminum
onion flakes,Dehydrated
. foil
Worcestershire sauce
4 Carrots,sliced
Salt & pepper,To Taste
1 cn Potatoes,16oz, sliced
Separate meat into 4 portions. Place each in the center of a square
of foil. Top with equal portions of chopped carrots, potatoes and
peppers.
Season with dehydrated onions, Worcestershire sauce, salt and pepper
to taste. Seal foil, checking for leaks. Place on hot coals for 10 to 15
minutes per side.

Frozen Dessert Recipes

Apple Walnut
2 apples, cored, peeled, chopped
2 cups whipping cream
1/2 teaspon cinnamon
1 cup milk
3 egg yolks
3/4 cup sugar
1/4 chopped walnuts
Steam apples until soft. Puree with 1/4 cup of sugar, 1 cup of cream and cinnamon Beat egg yolks. Beat 1/2 cup of sugar. Heat milk and 1 cup of cream just short of boiling. Stir into egg yolks. Mix milk/egg and apple mixtures. Cool. Mix in machine. Add walnuts when ice cream nearly ready.

Jams Recipes

Apple Maple Jam
3 quart finely chopped apples (about 6 pound; ds)
6 cup sugar
1 cup maple syrup
1 teaspoon cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon allspice
1/2 teaspoon nutmeg
1/4 teaspoon cloves
Combine all ingredients in a large sauce pot. Bring slowly to a
boil. Cook rapidly to jellying point. As mixture thickens, stir
frequently to prevent sticking. Pour hot into hot jars, leaving 1/4
inch head space. Adjust caps. Process 10 minutes in boiling water
bath. Yield: about 8 half pints.

 

Kids Fun Recipes

Butterfly Bites
2 Stalks of celery
12 lg Three-ring pretzels
6 tb Peanut butter or cream cheese
About 18 raisins or currents
12 Slivered almonds or enoki mushrooms
Wash the celery. Using plastic knives, cut the celery into thirds. Fill
each celery stalk with one tablespoon of either peanut butter or cream
cheese. For the wings, gently push 1 pretzel into the filling, running
parallel to the length of the celery stick. Do the same on the celery's
other lengthwise side. Arrange the raisins or currents as the eyes,
nose and mouth. For antennae, push the slivered almonds or mushroom cap into filling. If using mushrooms, arrange the spaghettilike mushroom tips upward, like an antenna.

 

Recipes From South of the Border

ANTICUCHOS

1 large Sirloin Steak
2 large Garlic Cloves
4 To 6 Medium Jalapeno Peppers
1 cup Red Wine Vinegar
1 1/2 cups Water
2 teaspoons Salt
1/2 teaspoon Pepper
1 teaspoon Oregano
1 teaspoon Cumin
1 teaspoon Ground Red Chile
In a blender or food processor, grind the jalapenos and peeled garlic
to a pulp. Add all the other ingredients, except the meat, and blend
well. Cut the meat into 1-inch cubes and place in a large bowl, and
cover with the marinade. Marinate overnight or all day. Place the meat
on skewers and cook on the grill over mesquite wood, basting frequently with the sauce. Serve with warm flour tortillas and plenty of Mexican beer with lime slices.

 

Pudding Recipes

Apple Tapioca Pudding
Soak three-quarter cup of tapioca and boil it in one quart of water
until clear, sweetening to taste. Pare and core six apples and place
them in a baking dish. Fill the cores with sugar, pour the tapioca
around them and grate a little nutmeg over the top. Cover and bake until the apples are soft Serve with cream.

 

Salad Recipes

Tomato & String Bean Salad
Besides being appetizing in flavor and appearance, tomato and string-bean salad has the advantage over some salads in that it can be made of either fresh or canned vegetables. For the salad here shown, tomatoes and beans canned by the cold-pack method were used. If it is desired to duplicate this salad, place a canned tomato or a peeled fresh tomato in the center of a plate garnished with lettuce and around it place several piles of three or four canned or freshly cooked beans. Serve with French dressing or any other desired salad dressing.

 

Smoothies for Athletes

Amazing Apple Smoothie
2 cups apple sauce
1 cup apple cider
1 cup orange juice
2 tablespoons Vermont maple syrup
1/2 teaspoons nutmeg
1/2 teaspoons cinnamon
Combine all ingredients in a blender and blend until smooth. Pour into glasses and serve.

 

Summer Party Cookbook

Cajun-Style Rib-Eye Steak
1 cup vegetable oil
1 onion, thinly sliced
1 tablespoon garlic powder
1 tablespoon plus 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
6 small rib-eye steaks, approximately 3 pounds
1 tablespoon paprika
1 teaspoon cayenne pepper, or to taste
1 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon white pepper
Begin marinating the steaks a day ahead.
1. Combine oil, sliced onion, garlic powder and 1 tablespoon black pepper in 13 x 9 x 2-inch glass baking dish. Add steaks to marinade, turning to coat. Spoon half of sliced onion evenly over steaks. Cover and refrigerate overnight.
2. Prepare barbecue (medium-high heat) or preheat broiler. Remove steaks from marinade. Combine paprika, cayenne, salt, white pepper and 1/2 teaspoon black pepper in small bowl. Sprinkle each side of each steak with 1 teaspoon spice mixture.
3. Grill or broil steaks until cooked through, about 8 minutes per side for medium-rare. Cut each steak in half. Divide steaks among plates; serve.
